Hello everyone! Today I’m pretty excited because I’m about to start my seven-day language challenge and I will be trying to learn as much Croatian as I can in the next seven days.
Why did I chose Croatian? Well I chose it because I have basically no knowledge of Croatian, once I took two hours of a… of an audio course for Croatian. I can barely remember like three words in it and I also learned like one complex phrase once that I still remember but that’s it and… but I do speak Russian however I believe or at least I read and I heard that they’re not, I mean, they’re Slavic languages but they’re not that similar so I don’t think that Russian is going to help me all that much as I try to learn Croatian.
So of course I’m not going to make any outrageous claims like oh hey I’m going to become fluent in seven days. Of course not but I’m just curious to see how far I can get and by the end of the seven days I will try to have, you know, a short conversation in Croatian. So what am I going to do in these seven days? I will try to do around an hour and a half of dedicated studying, ok? And at least one and a half hours of passive studying so that will include just listening to audio in Croatian of course, basically as I drive around or maybe just like listen to the content a bit more just as… with it the background as a home or maybe a little bit more actively so hopefully I’ll be able to spend around three hours a day for the next seven days so that will amount to about 21 hours of learning Croatian of course by the end of it I don’t know how well I will be able to understand what is being said to me in a basic conversation because 21 hours is absolutely, you know, it’s very very little.
There’s some possibility that perhaps my knowledge of Russian will allow me to build a basis of Croatian that will enable me to understand things a bit better I don’t know though I don’t think so, but we’ll see! I’m excited, and by the end of it, I’m pretty curious to see how much I can… How decent a conversation I can have. Obviously that in the long run I actually want to take it seriously and learn Croatian fully. Of course in seven days that’s just, that’s nothing!
However, that being said, I think that doing a seven-day language challenge can be a really cool thing it can get some inertia on your side as you learn the language so whatever language you’re intending on learning, if you take a really serious week to learn, to dedicate yourself to learning that language as much as you can that can build some positive inertia for you to learn the language. Which I think is great, especially at the beginning of course it could be that I won’t be disciplined and I’ll do less than three hours a day in the next seven days for a couple days I’ll try to compensate it on other days and of course, you know, if I have the chance I’ll do even more but I don’t think that’s realistic as I’m somewhat busy in the next seven days anyways with work and so on so but I’m excited to get started and…
What do I have? What do I have with me for this challenge? Well, I went to the library today and it picked up this Croatian from Living Language I have other books, language learning books from Living Language and I like them I think I have, yeah, an advanced German and French… German, French! I have advanced books from Living Language and they’re good so I’m hoping that this will help me build a little basis and I also have around 3,000 words or maybe 4,000 words of content that I essentially wrote in English and then got translated into Croatian and I also have the audio for that, ok? So what I normally do is that I study that carefully. I study that carefully and I try to essentially build a basis using that material.
So I’m excited to see how far that will take me in the seven days… So I hope you guys wish me luck because I will certainly need it! Thank you!
